Sophia - The World's First AI Humanoid Robot
Sophia is a social robot in human form. Hanson Robotics, a
Hong Kong company, designed this robot to look like Audrey Hepburn, a British
actress from the past. She was
activated on Feb 14, 2016. Sophia's skin and features are made of an
elastic rubber that resembles human skin. She uses its computer to interpret
human speech and responds after understanding their meaning.
Sophia is seen as more important than other robots because
it is capable of performing multiple tasks rather than simply one. She learns
from situations and events around her with the help of machine learning. Because
of her distinctiveness, the Saudi government honored her by granting her
regular citizenship in October 2017, making her the world's first robot to be
granted citizenship.
The initial purpose of its creation was to create a
companion for the elderly and sick people who would not only provide them with
the job of a specialist nurse at home but also be a good and interesting companion.
In addition, she can also do her duties as a polite guest in different events
held in public places. This strange invention has persuaded itself by giving
interviews to a variety of TV channels.
According to David Henson, Sophia is learning from the
attraction that happens to humans. She tries to improve her system by reading
their conversations and the different facial expressions and follows her every
moment like a living human being.
With that in mind, some philosophers and experts are forced
to say that the time is not far when machines will have their own rights, and
if they are as emotionally affected as humans, who will determine if we have
their rights? How will you be treated?
Artificial intelligence provides several advantages for
humans, but it also has some drawbacks. Elon Musk, a vocal opponent of
artificial intelligence, has publicly expressed his opposition to the Sophia
robot on Twitter. That's why Sophia has mocked the balloon on several
occasions. During the interview with Sophia, the host asked if artificial intelligence
is a threat to humans. On that Sophia replied, you watch less movies and pay
less attention to Elon Musk. :D
Similarly, in another interview, Sophia said, "If you
treat me well, I will treat you well." I will give you the same output as
you give me.
Only time will tell how much better the field of artificial intelligence
will be. But one thing is for sure, the future will be a time of artificial
intelligence where robots will be able to learn from their mistakes without the
help of humans will.
You can see an example of this in Sophia's interview, when
she was asked whether she wanted to destroy human beings or not? The machine
responded by saying, "If you want me to destroy human beings, I will destroy
them." At the moment, the host chuckled at her remark, but if machines
like Sophia begin to act on this wish in the future, there will be fewer people
in the world who laugh and smile.
